Dear Parents, 1-30-17
This is Catholic School’s Week. The book fair started yesterday at the Open House and will continue through the week. It is set up in the library. Our class will be taking a tour this week. There is also a teacher wish list. J Tomorrow, we will be playing an all school Bingo in the afternoon. Your child brought home an invitation last week for the Family Lunch on Wednesday at 11:00. Siblings and cousins will be able to sit together for this special lunch. In the afternoon, the primary grades will have a Game Day in the lunch room. Your child can bring a favorite board game, card game or puzzle. No electronic or battery operated games, please. On Thursday, we will be doing a service project. We will end the week with a Pep Assembly on Friday. There is also a bake sale all week. Proceeds go to 5th & 6th grade Islandwood camping trip.
In Math this month, we will continue working on subtraction and place value. For Seasonal Math on Fridays in February, your child needs to bring “something red.” We brainstormed many “red” things that you would have at home. Also in Math, we will be working on counting by 5’s and will begin our geometry unit. In Science, we will finish up our unit on the Day and Night Sky and begin our unit on Land and Water. We will also be talking about Dental Health this month. In Religion, we are finishing up our unit on the Holy Family and our families and then we will be talking about how Jesus taught us to pray and different types of prayer. In Reading, we will continue to work on short vowels and we will also learn how the silent e (aka magic e) changes the vowel to a long vowel. In Writing, we are learning how to describe the setting in our stories. In Social Studies, we finished up our unit on Martin Luther King, Jr. and will begin our unit on Maps and Globes.
Next Tuesday, February 7th, is the 100th day of school! I hope everyone is working on their 100 Day shirts. Please do not wait until Sunday to start. One year, the items on one of the student’s shirts were falling off because the glue had not dried! L We would love to see them if you have them finished! On Tuesday, please have your child wear it over their uniforms. We will be taking them off when we go to recess.
