READING
RECORD SHEETS:
The weekly reading record sheet will be brought home on Monday and is due the following Monday. Please try to read daily with your child for at least 5-10 minutes a day. At the beginning of the year, you will probably be doing most, if not all of the reading. By listening to you read, your child will be developing skills for using context clues, prediction, comprehension, voice inflection, the use of punctuation and reflection. These are important skills for emergent readers to develop while they are acquiring decoding skills. During and after reading the story, the questioning strategies from Retelling a Story will help their comprehension and understanding of the story.
