3-13-17
Dear Parents,
If you would like to order books this month, book orders are due this Friday, March 17th.
During Lent, we will be praying the Stations of the Cross with1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders every Tuesday at 2:30 in the church. Your child brought home a copy of the responses to practice for homework last week. We will be reciting the responses together, so they don’t have to be able to read all of it. I just want them to be familiar with it. You can write this down as minutes read for the reading record sheet. You are invited to come pray with us.
The students will be bringing home their Lenten Triangles with their Lenten pledges written on it. Have them tell you about the three things we focus on during Lent. A few students have been bringing in their rice bowls, but I have been sending them back so they can keep collecting coins during Lent. We will be collecting them during Holy Week, the week before Spring break.
In Math, we are working on our Measurement unit. We have been working with length and will be exploring capacity and weight. In Science, we have started our Life Science unit and have been exploring living and nonliving things. In Religion, we will continue our unit on Lent. In Social Studies, we are working on our last unit, Problem Solving, in Second Step. In Reading, we are working on consonant blends, compound words, sight words and have started working with “magic e” (silent e) to change short vowels to long vowels. Only 4 out of 19 students brought their sight word books last week. Please have your children keep the books in their folders so I can record their progress. Also let me know if it is lost and a new one is needed. In Writing, we will be working with punctuation and using complete sentences. I am encouraging them to use exclamation and question marks in their sight word sentence homework. We have also enjoyed hearing about all the adventures my journal bag critters have had over the weekends. Please remember that they are coming home on the weekends and set aside some time to help your child with this activity over the weekend.
If you need to fulfill your volunteer hours, Mrs. Rolluda is looking for helpers in the Pre-K room from 11:30-12:30. Let her know what days you would be available.
Multicultural Celebration Night News: Maureen Tucker (Colin’s mom), who is also coordinating our wonderful auction basket, wanted me to pass on some information about the Multicultural Celebration Night tickets. If some of the kindergarten class parents reserve a table as a group (10 seats), the tickets would be $20 each per person instead of $25. The first group with ten people interested could let her know and she would make sure the table is reserved for you. Her # is 317.319.6237
Reminders:
Thank you,
Toni Royal
