Dear Parents,
This Friday, January 29th, is our field to Seattle Prep. Their bus will be arriving at 9:30 to pick us up. Also on Friday, your child needs to bring a pair of gloves for Seasonal Math. We will be using them to count by fives, so mittens won’t work this week.
Our 100th Day of School celebration is on Monday, February 8th. The students have been telling me about their shirts that they have been working on at home. They can bring them in when they are finished, if they would like to. Four students have brought in their shirts. It’s fun to look at the different ideas. I have other samples, too, if you need some ideas.
If you missed the directions for the shirt last week, here they are:
We have a special at-home project that needs to be completed before 100 Day on February 9th. The children need to make a 100 Day shirt to wear over their uniforms on this special day. This is a fun and exciting part of our celebration. An old adult-sized T-shirt works the best. Find 100 small objects that can be sewn or glued onto the shirt (a hot glue gun works great.) You can use the front, back and sleeves of the shirt. Have your child arrange the objects on the shirt in 10 groups of 10. This will make it easier for us to count all the objects. The objects can be all the same or you can use different objects for each group.
We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, February 14th. We will be getting together with our 4th grade buddies in the afternoon for some valentine activities and a treat. Please let me know if you would like to send in a non-nut treat. Fruit snacks or non-food items (stickers, pencils, etc.) seem to be the best and least messy. There are 19 Kindergartners and 18 4th graders. At the bottom of this newsletter is our class roster if your child would like to bring valentines. I encourage you to let your child print the names on the valentines. This will help your child learn how to read the names and it will also be easier for your child to pass them out.
Since we have been back from Christmas break, there has been a decline in completing homework and reading record sheets. Several students said that they couldn’t do their homework because they lost their dice box. If you do not have dice, the dollar store sells them or you can send me $1 and I will give your child another one. Please make time to work with your child every day. Your child should also be filling in the answers if it is just a number or word. If there is a lot of writing, such as the Second Step homework, they can dictate their answers. It is important to reinforce the concepts at home to help them continue to make good progress.
Reminders:
- Please send in your second box of crackers.
- Please send in the permission slip and $13 fee for the Seattle Children’s Theatre field trip.Chaperones also need to pay $13.
Thank you!
